DIPLOMA AS CAREER

Career diplomas are awarded for completing vocational or technical training programs at post-secondary learning institutions, such as Polytechnics in India. These diploma programs are focused on providing specific education for job opportunities or advancement. The objective of all diploma programs is to provide opportunities for employment in industry; the other option available to students after completing the diploma course is to get admission directly to the second year of a degree programme in the same stream. Most diploma programs combine traditional classroom learning with hands-on training, which is one of the reasons why industries prefer diploma holders. The three year post S.S.C. Diploma course in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, which is offered by St. Xavier’s Technical Institute, Mahim, Mumbai, provides for work experience opportunities through in-plant training and also job placement assistance. The Government of Maharashtra has accorded Minority Status to this Institute as conducted by the Catholic minority; for Non-Minority candidates the admissions are done through Centralized Admission Process (C.A.P.), the details of which are available on the Directorate of Technical Education website www.dte.org.in.

Globalization and liberalization have seen the entry of multinational companies into India in all sectors. Due to the huge potential for infrastructure development there is a good demand for technicians and engineers in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication. Engineering being the practical application of science, aspiring students essentially need good logical and mental ability, problem solving skills and an ability to grasp concepts quickly. An ability to express oneself, perseverance and consistency are some of the other skills required. Throughout the duration of the engineering course students are required to put in long hours of study, work with tools and work in teams.

The Institute provides facilities for professional and specialized training in Electronics and Telecommunication. In today’s world of sophisticated technology there is a demand in industry for persons capable of handling sophisticated electronic equipment, with a focus on the ability to actually operate, maintain and adapt such equipment to customized requirements. The course is therefore designed to combine up-to-date theory with much of hands on practicals in the laboratories and workshops which equips the student with a substantial amount of practical learning.

Further, the highly competitive world of today needs well developed persons and hence developing soft skills like “Professional Practices” and “Vocational Training” in different industries are required subjects in this full-time Diploma. St. Xavier’s Technical Institute, presently offers a full time three year Diploma course in Electronics and Telecommunication. This course is recognized and aided by the Maharashtra State Government and approved by the A.I.C.T.E.   The Institute has been granted autonomy by the Government of Maharashtra and issues its own Diploma which is recognized by the Government and equivalent to the Diplomas issued by the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE).

The aim of the Institute is to develop men and women who are not just top quality engineers but also well developed persons to relish “the joy of excellence in a world of high technology”.
